It has always been an important aspect of the beer week to raise money for local charities.
Sue Ryder
Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, the death of someone close to them or a neurological condition – we’re there when it matters.
Our doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
Our cost of care has increased by 20% in the last three years, while statutory funding has seen an increase of less than 3%.
The cost of providing an hour of palliative care has increased from £21 to £25 per hour.
The vital funding we receive soon won’t stretch as far as we need. And that’s why we need people like you to support us.

National Star
National Star, is a charity based in Cheltenham. We have been depended on for over 50 years by young people with disabilities and their families, and today we are needed more than ever. Remarkable medical and technological advances give young people with ever more severe disabilities and injuries the chance of a life. More premature babies are surviving, children overcoming major illness and accidents, but living with increasingly complex and profound disabilities.
The college offers residential and day programmes that are tailored to meet individual aspirations and abilities, with a strong emphasis on creative and performing arts, sports, communication skills and life skills. Students progress is monitored through the setting of individual goals, and a strong multi-disciplinary team, including tutors, care support, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists, ensuring a holistic and person-centred approach is taken.
National Star can be there for students, current and future generations of young people with complex disabilities, but in order to do so we need your help to ensure we have the right specialist facilities, resources and equipment that will enable them to progress, grow and flourish.
‘Our daughter Catrin who has very complex needs, has received outstanding support from the knowledgeable, committed and experienced staff at National Star during her time there. The progress she has made, particularly from the specialised therapies available to her, has been wonderful to see’ Mr and Mrs A.
Thank you for helping to make a difference to young people’s lives.
